Active School Flag

Active School Flag

Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan. It aims to get more schools, more active, more often. It is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. Research shows that active children find it easier to concentrate and focus, achieve higher test results, behave better and enjoy school more. We are currently working towards attaining our second flag here in Gneeveguilla N.S. We see the importance of physical activity, not only for our physical but our mental health also. In conjunction with the extra-curricular activities and teaching of P.E already in place in school, we are encouraging both pupils and teachers and indeed their families to be as active as possible. Throughout the year we initiate and organise events that promote our pupils to be physically active, with particular emphasis on inclusion, fun and whole school participation.

Keep an eye on this page to see what we get up to in trying to make our school more active!
