Firstly I hope you and your family are all keeping well during these times.

Below I have attached the work outlined for the week ahead. Please remember to only complete what you can. Much of the work below can be independently completed by the children and then checked by an adult.

I appreciate all feedback and questions via the Seesaw app and am here to support you every step of the way. I would love to see how you are all getting on, so if possible take a picture of some of your work you would like me to see and upload it to Seesaw.

–     Let’s keep reading! Continue to read a book of your choice. Remember to keep a record of your reading on your Reading Record sheet.

–      Folens online have given access to all their online digital resources for the next coming weeks.

–        Once here you can revise stories already completed and play some sight word games.

–        New story: “Let’s Eat Outside”

–        New words online.

 

·         Tricky Words

–      Keep revising a number of tricky words this week, in particular the following: put, saw, right, their, made should, would, could, goes, does, four, two.

–      I have included a worksheet in their bags to revise this set.

–      New tricky words: once, upon, always, also

–      Some ideas to teach tricky words:

o   Can you make up/write a sentence for each word?

o   Can you make the word using playdough/lego other materials?

o   Can you find the word in a reading book?

 

·         Just Phonics (Big book)

–      New vowel diagraph /ou/ on pg. 65

–      Trace and practice the letter formation in sand, shaving foam, paint, soil etc.

–      Find and draw items from around the house that has the /ou/ sound.

–      Revision of the /th/ sound on pg. 19

 

·         Just Handwriting

Complete one page this week.

 

·         Writing

During these historic times I suggest that your child completes a simple diary. Write a few sentences about your day and draw a picture to match. This can be done in their Free-Writing copy.

 

 

Maths  

Master your Maths

–      Each day complete one strip of the Mental Maths book.

–      This week complete: Friday test on page 90 and

Week 26 pg. 56 and 57 and Friday test is on page 91.

 

 

·         Busy at Maths (Big book)

Number 10

–      Complete pg. 86,87, 88, 89

–      Writing the number 10, emphasise the number 1 is written first (rhyme for 1 – start at the top and down we run, that’s the way we make a 1… rhyme for 0 – Round and round and round we go, when we get home we have zero.)

–      Try to find the number 10 around the house.

–      Count objects around the house up to 10, count, backwards from 10.

–      What comes before/after 10?

Religion ·         Grow in Love

–      This week we will begin to look at Holy Week and Easter, in particular Palm Sunday.

–      Grow in Love has very useful online resources which can be accessed through https://app.growinlove.ie/en/login

o   When you log in click on the First Class book – Theme 7 Holy Week and Easter – Lesson 1 Jesus in Jerusalem

–      Show your child the video ‘Team Ireland Arrive Home to Ireland’ (online resource)

o   Chat about the why all the people were waiting for them, what they did when they saw them, why they did that, etc.

o   Then ask your child to think of a time when they welcomed someone or a team like this.

o   Chat about how supporters feel and how a team/individual feels in times like these.

o   Draw a picture to show this.

o   Make up your own prayer thanking God for all those who support us in our lives, especially in these hard times.

–      The Passover was a feast celebrated every year by Jesus, his family and his friends.

o   Listen to the story ‘Jesus Comes into Jerusalem’ (online resource).

o   Do pg. 40 in Grow in Love workbook

o   Pray the Sanctus on pg. 41

–      A few days after Jesus came into Jerusalem to the cheers and shouts of the people, he was arrested and sentenced to death.

o   Listen to the story ‘Jesus is Crucified’ (online resource).

o   Pray the Sanctus on pg. 41

·         Spelling Book

–      Write a /ew/ word in each jewel and draw a picture to illustrate it.

–      Tricky words: because and want

–      Once you feel they are confident with these words, I would suggest doing a spelling test at the end of the week. This could be completed in test copy.

Dictation

–      Read the words one at a time. The children listen for the sounds in each word, and write the words down.
